Speaking of the MMD community there was this specific part of it that mass harassed a minor to suicide over a fucking joke or something.
They're super fucking disgusting and they'd mock art made by minors on a secret account
Don't remember the name of the community but they have a DA group and a tumblr
Holy shit, that's fucking awful, who in the right mind who are above 18 would harass a minor to the point of suicide over a joke, art skills most teens will have, or something extremely trivial?
Coming from someone who used to browse fandom spaces, I see this alot, especially those in larger fandoms. I remember I read cases of people getting harassed, swatted, doxed, or stalked in real time. I used to followed a girl who was very pissy about stuff and she apparently posted pictures of a girl she had minor fandom beef or something like that, that was when I had use social media to draw but not anymore. And I avoided her since then.
About those groups, had a former friend had his art uploaded to those groups when he was a teenager at the time, he wasn't even a degen: he's basically some guy who draws SFW art and had some issues regarding having APD (Avoidant Personality Disorder). I remember those groups existed in the age of Google+ and DA, they're kind of gone but you'll see them on Reddit or VK.
That's why I avoid fandom spaces, especially big ones, too much drama and less civilized behavior, let alone posting my work online.

what did the kid do, make a black character white or something?
Possibly some edgy joke that didn't fall right with some people so the offended thought harassing the kid to suicide is going to "teach her a lesson"
Since most of us did that in our teen years, I genuinely don't get why said girl got harsh treatment while everyone else did the same and all they get are slaps on the wrists.
but I do remember I see cases of people "whitewashing" characters and the "whitewashing" is mostly artist lightened up character skin tone 1-3 colors because of limited palette choice or working with pastels. A Splatoon artist got harassed over that and same goes with that Japanese artist and a few others who drew Nessa.
I've seen people especially "progressive" artists anf bl**ked artists draw black people as beasts and using horrible color choices that makes them look like a caricature. Why do they do that? Because they don't see black people as people but instead monsters hence zoo and bl**ked aligned and "progressive" artists trying to intentionally make them ugly to avoid the "white gaze" aka make them look average but average bad according to them.
Honestly, white and black Nessa for example look both good and besides I've seen video games have palette swaps that makes white girl black and black/brown girl white (I think Skullgirls and a few other games like it have that) with no problem or backlash.
