why does it take so long for admins\mods to approve a post?

My best advice is to make content good enough to warrant earning the contributor role, allowing you to skip the queue entirely!

My post has been up for 20 hours and it hasn't been approved yet.

Welcome to the queue. There are about 10 other posts in front of your post and it comes down to what the mod/admin thinks is high quality enough. If it doesn't get approved in 3 days you can appeal and try again.
