Race-swaps in official media.

Posted under General

What is everyone's take on the amount of race-swaps we've been seeing lately, mostly coming out of Hollywood? Do you roll your eyes whenever an already established character receives a race change out of a disingenuous justification to cater to that aforementioned character's new ethnicity group? Do you like it because it could, in some cases, provide new storytelling opportunities and character arcs for that character? Do you not care one way or the other? Or do you, (like me for the most part.) just shrug your shoulders and say to yourself, "Eh, whatever... he/she's fap material." And go on here, or other hentai sites and see if anyone has made art of them just out of curiosity?

Me, myself... I've really stopped caring about remakes and reimaginings at this point since I can usually just access the original stuff through some... third party source, even if they aren't on the popular streaming services. Although, I'd be intrigued to read everyone's opinions all the same.

I'm numb to it at this point. These major race swaps happen, the movie bombs everywhere but China (because Han Chinese are used to devouring slop), the production studio pats themselves on the back for being so progressive, and then the cycle repeats.

Around the time of The Witcher Netflix show when the director made Triss a black woman and character assassinated her is when my frustration for it all peaked.

Race swaps are not necessary a bad thing like J (Men in Black) and Nick Fury (Marvel)

Its when its done as a tokenization to promote "we are progressive" instead of an honest "we hired this guy because it portrays the character better"... As much they refuse to say it, its just racism. No one honestly would give a fuck if they made a character black, if that person portrayed the character better, like in the 2000/2010 but it been done so much that you cant find an honest version of it, just tokenization made by a bunch of white cucks that are basically racists

It depends on the intention, characters like Nick Fury & Jim Gordon being race-swapped works because they weren't cast with " representation " in mind they were cast because Samuel L jackson & Jeffrey Wright are damn good actors and just so happened to audition.
Characters like the ones that are being recast as dark actors in the disney remakes though however are clearly being done to hit some quotas - Hollywood also seems to have a seething hatred of gingers for some reason as it seems if a character is ginger they've got a 90% chance of being turned black in a hollywood remake - rest in piss Scotland

i mean it's typical jewlywood woke nonsense, but predictions are they are going to stop doing it, we shall see tho.

Ideally, but until one of the major players file for bankruptcy, I doubt they'll have much incentive, let alone the common sense to do so. Warner Brothers for example genuinely thought that Velma was a better investment than the cancelled Batman Beyond movie, or the cancelled Wily Coyote movie, and I will never understand why.

people just geniunely forget how long a hollywood production can take to make - with the exception of like the MCU all the companies have been doing a hard U-turn from the woke stuff post like 2022 and the reason for this is just the sheer amount of stuff that entered production between like 2016 - 2018 when wokeness was seen as progressive and an easy way to generate tickets - after learning their lesson all the studios seem to be taking a colossal U-turn because I honestly can't think of anything that's come out this year that could be considered " Woke "

Well, you could be right, but once again, I don't really care anymore. Whether it is woke or not, it doesn't stop shitty media from being shitty media. I generally disdain the left-leaning stuff more, but I won't pretend I fully agree with the right either. After all, they're the ones who were initially to blame for, say, video game and anime censorship, which is the one thing I give somewhat of a damn about. Everyone remembers the Satanic Panic. Everyone is crazy to an extent, and I'm just in the front row seat with my popcorn, as far as I'm concerned.

I mean it's never been primarily about money, as people have noted, if they just wanted to make a large amount of money, so much of the world is religion and Christian, so they could pump out Jesus movies which are always the highest watched ones "ie passion of the christ." It's more than that for how they make decisions.

Pretty much, things seem to be changing, most notably because the overt woke stuff has been causing too much of a backlash against their authority, with populism rising as a symptom, The idea is they will ditch the overt propaganda and go back to what they had far more success with, which is subversive stuff that change things without people noticing so much and getting a backlash too. only time will tell tho
