Everyone will have different opinion but personally, I would recommend you to shave. I just think it looks cleaner and sexier. Visually, I think it's a shame to hide the base of that (white?) meat in a bush. It's also going to make it look shorter.

And like you said, it's kinda risky for a first time with a new partner.
